Our Architecture team is seeking an experienced Aviation Architect to provide architectural design services and consultancy work on behalf of Baker Hicks, ensuring the delivery of exceptional design and project outcomes.

This position will require occasional on-site presence at both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

You will be a registered Architect with experience in delivering a variety of multi-disciplinary aviation projects.

You’ll be part of an enthusiastic and committed team of Architects and Technicians to deliver high-quality output on projects.
Client care and repeat business are crucial to BakerHicks' success, so you’ll need to be able to develop and nurture relationships with our clients (both internal and external).

The successful candidate will exhibit high levels of creativity, imagination, vision and enthusiasm to produce distinctive architectural solutions and have a good knowledge in the production of technical details and specifications.

 

Key Purpose & Responsibilities

  • Deliver architectural design and specifications in line with current standards, regulations and project requirements.
  • Produce drawings, reports, surveys and construction‑stage deliverables, ensuring quality, compliance and alignment with client needs.
  • Lead and coordinate architectural input on multi‑disciplinary projects, managing time, cost, quality and client relationships.
  • Review designs, calculations and subcontractor information for technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with wider design teams to develop safe, efficient and buildable solutions.
  • Support departmental improvement and mentor early‑career team members.
  • Contribute to tender activities, scopes, cost management, change control and resource planning.
  • Liaise with clients, end‑users and project stakeholders on feasibility, constraints and design intent.

 

Requirements

Essential

  • Registered Architect (RIBA/ARB).
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering projects at RIBA Stage 4 in the aviation sector and understanding of Heathrow and / or Gatwick standards
  • Considerable design, technical detailing and specification writing experience.
  • Experience of contributing to bids, proposals and tender specifications.
  • Fully conversant with the basics of British Standards and Eurocodes with respect to Architectural design, sustainability and specification.
  • Ability to organise a team to develop designs from RIBA 0 through 7
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Autodesk Revit 3D software and a working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD 2D as a minimum.
  • Ability to produce NBS Chorus Specifications
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations

 

Desirable

  • Experience of managing small teams from Apprentices and Graduates to Architect and Technician level.
  • Understanding of commercial elements of projects
  • Experience in collaborating with external design organisations
  • An appreciation of business fundamentals to ensure commercial project targets are achieved
