Contractor, Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

Your Impact at Lila

As EHS Coordinator at Lila Sciences, you will support the day-to-day operations of our environmental health, safety, and sustainability programs across our laboratory environments. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role. You will be a visible presence on the lab floor, keep compliance workflows running smoothly, and help stand up our ESG and ISO-aligned programs from the ground level.

This is a contract, individual contributor role onsite at our Cambridge, MA location. It is an excellent opportunity to build direct EHS and lab safety experience in a fast-moving, mission-driven scientific environment, with meaningful exposure to program development and sustainability reporting.

What You'll Be Building

• Support development and maintenance of EHS programs and policies to comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including incident documentation and corrective action tracking.
• Provide consistent on-the-ground EHS coverage through lab tours, facility walkthroughs, and routine safety checks.
• Support biosafety, chemical safety, and hazardous waste disposal processes, coordinating with lab teams to ensure regulatory alignment.
• Assist in delivering EHS training and onboarding for new staff and contractors.
• Support the stand-up of Lila's ESG program, including data gathering, tracking, and preparation of sustainability reports and dashboards.
• Assist with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance activities, including documentation and process coordination.
• Contribute to the buildout of EHS standards for the AISF blueprint through documentation, policy coordination, and workflow organization.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• BA/BS degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Health and Safety, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
• 1-3 years of experience in EHS, sustainability coordination, program administration, or a closely related role.
• Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
• Comfort working independently, managing multiple priorities, and following through on details in a fast-paced environment.
• Genuine interest in lab safety, environmental compliance, and sustainability and eagerness to learn the technical side of EHS.
• Strong familiarity using AI tools.

Bonus Points For

• Any exposure to biosafety, chemical hygiene, or hazardous waste handling (academic, internship, or professional).
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 frameworks.
• Experience with ESG data collection or sustainability reporting.
• Prior experience with lab safety management tools and technologies.
