About the Role

We are looking for an autonomous, strategic and high-performing Counsel - Employment Legal, to support our North America region (“NAMER”), and provide practical and business-focused guidance to internal business stakeholders. 

This role is based in New York or Los Angeles and reports to the Senior Director - Employment Legal (NAMER and LATAM) who is based in LATAM.

Responsibilities:

  • Partnering closely with our Human Resources team to evaluate legal risks and provide practical, business-oriented guidance across the employee lifecycle.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of employment-related documents and agreements, including offer letters/contracts, contractor agreements, standard agreements, authorizations, commission agreements and release agreements.
  • Assisting with workplace investigations, employee claims and disputes.
  • Supporting the management of employment claims and litigation, including partnering with outside counsel, coordinating internal fact gathering, reviewing and providing input on submissions and supporting on risk and settlement strategy.
  • Supporting workforce restructurings, reductions in force, and organizational changes, including legal risk assessment, impact analysis, and compliant separation planning.
  • Collaborating with the Human Resources team on projects to drive legal compliance, including reviewing policy and process rollouts and implementation.
  • Collaborating with Legal & Business Affairs to establish and enforce production-specific labor guidelines, mitigating misclassification risks across all productions.
  • Advising key production stakeholders on day-to-day crew member employment and onboarding requirements to ensure legal compliance. 
  • Creating and delivering internal training related to employment matters such as manager training, orientation, local legislation updates and harassment training.
  • Staying up to date with the most recent developments in employment laws and ensuring internal policies and procedures are updated accordingly.
  • Working with our internal employment legal team in other regions, including EMEA and APAC on cross-functional matters related to employment issues, to ensure that we establish and follow global best practices.

About You

The essentials:

  • J.D. and a member of the Bar in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. New York or California preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience advising multinational companies on federal and state employment and labor laws.
  • Demonstrable experience in and understanding of labor and employment issues in production and advertising strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment and generally exercise excellent judgment.
  • Must enjoy working cross-functionally with many different teams.
  • Employment litigation experience is preferred.

Monks has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what Monks may pay for the position at the time of posting. Monks may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on job-related factors, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.

 

 

 

Salary Range:
$120,000—$150,000 USD
