Role Overview

Maryland Hillel is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and relationship-driven Development Associate to support and advance our fundraising efforts. This role will play a key part in executing campaigns, strengthening donor relationships, and ensuring strong development systems and processes.

The Development Associate will take ownership of key projects while supporting broader initiatives under the guidance of the Development Manager. This role offers the opportunity to gain exposure to all aspects of nonprofit fundraising, including campaigns, donor relations, events, and strategy.

What You’ll Do

Campaigns & Fundraising Initiatives

  • Take ownership of key annual campaigns, including Big Ten Challenge, Giving Tuesday, Hillel Global Giving Week (HGGW), and holiday campaigns, with guidance from the Development Manager
  • Coordinate campaign timelines, logistics, and communications
  • Track and report on campaign progress and donor participation
  • Draft and coordinate email and direct mail outreach for campaigns
  • Support donor outreach efforts through campaign execution

Donor Stewardship & Engagement

  • Manage and implement a stewardship calendar to ensure consistent and meaningful donor engagement
  • Oversee donor acknowledgements and guide interns supporting this work
  • Track naming opportunities and donor recognition within the capital campaign
  • Help develop and implement new stewardship touchpoints (e.g., holiday cards, personalized outreach)

Development Operations & Donor Support

  • Maintain accurate donor records, including gift entry and pledge tracking in CRM (Salesforce)
  • Conduct prospect research and prepare materials for donor meetings
  • Track Executive Director donor meetings and support follow-up
  • Help supervise interns supporting data entry and development operations

Events & Donor Experiences

  • Support logistics and execution of major development events (e.g., ribbon cutting, donor events)
  • Coordinate donor and prospective donor tours of the Hillel building

Communications

  • Support development communications, including newsletters and outreach to parents and alumni
  • Maintain a development communications calendar
  • Assist with marketing for development campaigns and events
  • Contribute to young alumni engagement initiatives

Grants & Administration

  • Assist with grant research and writing, as needed
  • Provide support for Board of Directors materials and meeting minutes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit work, communications, or a related field preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)
  • Experience with event planning and execution
  • Proficient in GSuite and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Success in managing competing priorities

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace, with a range of $50,000–$58,000, commensurate with experience
