SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
DIRECTOR, GLOBAL LOGISTICS & OPERATIONS (STARLINK)
Starlink is a revolutionary satellite constellation delivering low-latency broadband internet around the world—bringing an unprecedented opportunity to significantly impact communities, businesses, and governments worldwide. In the United States, Starlink is rapidly expanding access to high-speed internet for rural, suburban, and underserved communities.
Reporting directly to the VP of Business Operations, the Director of Global Logistics Operations will lead the end-to-end execution of our shipping, logistics, and associated activities as we rapidly scale. This role is pivotal in delivering cost-effective, agile, and scalable operations across our complex global network to 155 and growing countries, territories and jurisdictions where Starlink equipment and services are shipped and sold. As Starlink equipment is manufactured in the US, the ideal candidate will leverage deep expertise in US Duty Drawback programs—particularly manufacturing substitutions for extensive Bills of Materials (BOMs)—to unlock operational cost savings and enhance efficiency in our high-volume trade flows.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of global shipping and logistics operations, including carrier selection and management, freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution, and last-mile delivery to 155+ countries, many of which are in the Global South. Most shipments comprise consumer products, but shipments also include larger, more advanced technology with bespoke transportation needs (ex. kits for aircraft installation, or gateway antennas to remote island nations).
- Advise on supply chain network design, focusing on inventory optimization and strategic cost-savings opportunities. Likewise, work with government affairs counterparts to identify and articulate strategic areas of focus for improvements in the local and global business climate.
- Run a robust and efficient import, export and duty drawback program (as well as any other relevant programs), leveraging the latest tools, technology and data available to reclaim duties on imported materials for exported products; manage complex BOMs to maximize recoveries and integrate into broader operational cost strategies. Design and manage a program that scales with the rapid growth of the production volume and customer base (2x year over year growth with 9 million active subscribers currently).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., procurement, manufacturing, finance) and external partners to streamline import/export processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement operational improvements for seamless global flow.
- Optimize costs through logistics efficiency, tariff engineering, free trade agreement leverage, and supplier negotiations, targeting measurable gains in speed, reliability, and profitability.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of logistics and operations specialists, promoting a culture of execution, innovation, and accountability.
- Monitor evolving global trade dynamics (e.g., tariffs, supply disruptions) and adapt operations proactively to ensure business continuity and resilience.
- Partner with external providers, such as freight forwarders and customs brokers, to resolve operational issues and enhance end-to-end visibility.
- Deliver executive-level reporting on key operational metrics (e.g., delivery performance, cost per shipment, duty recovery impacts) and recommend data-driven enhancements to senior leadership.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 10+ years of professional experience in global logistics and supply chain operations
- 5+ years of direct people leadership experience within manufacturing or consumer goods industries.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align operations at executive levels.
- Expertise in US Duty Drawback programs, with proven hands-on experience in manufacturing substitution for complex, multi-tiered BOMs; track record of achieving multimillion-dollar operational recoveries.
- Strong operational knowledge of international shipping practices, Incoterms, HS classifications, and supply chain tools.
- Demonstrated success in managing high-volume, time-sensitive logistics for consumer electronics, including components and finished goods across diverse markets.
- Proven leadership in building and motivating global teams and third-party networks, with a focus on operational excellence.
- Analytical and metrics-oriented mindset; experience driving performance through data analytics and process improvements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel occasionally.
- This position is based in Bastrop and requires being onsite—remote work not considered.
- Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
