Job Description

As an EPM, you will operate as a project and technical lead on hardware projects - partnering with Product and Program Management to define vision and requirements, and driving a cross-functional product development team to design, test, and deliver world-class ultrasound devices. As part of this role, you will also be expected to partner with Design Quality to adhere to Design Control and Change Control processes.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be to: 

  • Champion the project's design goals, ensuring they are integrated into all aspects of the  development lifecycle and holding teams accountable for achieving them
  • Lead the creation of and adherence to product development schedules, ensuring key decision milestones are met across all phases and holding teams accountable
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication and alignment between internal teams and external partners, ensuring everyone is working towards the same goal and any technical risks are communicated effectively
  • Facilitate early technology brainstorming, architecture and design, driving to alignment for cross-functional tradeoffs
  • Define product and component level requirements through data-driven decisions, maintaining decision-making authority for technical conflicts, and ensuring product scope aligns with hardware feasibility and development standards
  • Oversee the release process for parts and assemblies, ensuring timely and accurate releases and holding teams accountable for meeting release deadlines
  • Provide strong leadership and support during build phases, ensuring timely delivery of components, proactive problem-solving, and definition of validation plans
  • Identify and highlight technical or schedule risk areas. Collaborate with the affected teams to develop mitigation strategies and drive or support the closures of the issues.
  • Continuously improve existing tools and processes, and develop new tools and processes where needed to improve project execution and communication efficiency
  • Understand and implement Butterfly’s Design Control and Change Control process, and create and maintain the Design History File (DHF)
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain and Engineering on build quantities, strategy, configurations, dates, execution, and follow up
  • Escalate technical resource needs and technology gaps to functional managers, and help to procure and manage suppliers, consultants, and contractors that are hired to address the gaps
  • Own and manage smaller efforts around the development and qualification of products
  • Travel as necessary to the different Butterfly and vendor sites to form relationships, gather feedback, communicate strategy and plans, etc.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • 10+ years hardware development experience in a cross-functional team environment
  • Experience working with a US based company where late night or early morning meetings are required to maintain alignment between teams
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills (Chinese and English)
  • Technically strong in electronics / electromechanical system development
  • Flexible and calm in the face of ambiguity
  • Ability to filter and distill relevant information for the right audience
  • Demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities
  • Ability to lead multi-functional communication between internal teams and external vendors and partners
  • Drive day-to-day activities to meet overall project objectives and stay on schedule
  • Comfortable creating and managing project schedules
  • Provide timely issue resolution and critical path management
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary technical development teams
  • Able to deep dive and provide tactical and strategic leadership as situations demand
  • Able to proactively identify areas of concern and create a strategy to prioritize and address the issues

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Advanced degree, such as MS or PhD, in science, engineering, mathematics, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with medical device development across the entire product development lifecycle from concept to commercialization, Class II/III medical device experience under IEC 60601
  • Experience with advanced project management (PMP preferred)
  • Relentless sense of ownership for the success of a project
  • Strong knowledge of hardware development, especially in the following areas: electrical engr, mechanical engr, imaging systems, embedded SW, custom semiconductor development, ultrasound technologies
  • Experience with distributed teams
  • Knows how to create and maintain good chemistry to drive high-performing teams
  • Understanding of medical device product development, verification and production requirements

Location

At Butterfly we offer a hybrid work environment. For most employees, this means part time in the office (two or more days a week). Based on functional responsibilities and equipment needs, certain roles will require full time on-site support, and select roles will be eligible to be remote.

This is an in-office position and will be based out of our office in Taiwan.

Compensation 

Minimum full-time salary range around $2.5M TWD annually + bonus + equity + benefits. 

For this role, we are only considering candidates who are legally authorized to work in Taiwan and who do not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status.
