Summary:

Lead the strategic sourcing capability within Vaxcyte Technical Operations. Focus will be to ensure that the clinical and commercial supply network can meet the needs of the business. Working closely with Process Development, Commercial Manufacturing, and Supply Chain Planning this position will support the global commercial manufacturing network strategy by analyzing make/buy scenarios, should-cost modeling, identifying vendors, managing competitive bidding, negotiating and executing contracts. To ensure maximum value for Vaxcyte’s supply network they will need to manage performance aspects of vendors and contracts, and coordinates sourcing and procurement activities across departments to ensure that desired goods or services, quality, and performance meet business needs. This role will also work closely with Finance, Project Management and technical department leaders to manage supplier related financial compliance.

This role requires the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative and cooperative working relationships with team members across different functions and at different levels within the organization. The position requires enthusiasm, passion, influence, attention to detail and a desire to deliver great vaccines for patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate to develop and enable a supply strategy that contemplates cost, risk mitigation, supply assurance, quality, and innovation that generates significant enterprise value.
  • Drive the preparation of competitive bids, quotations and proposals with pertinent GMP specifications, terms and conditions and coordinate the introduction of new and modified products and services with appropriate departments.
  • Lead the supplier selection, negotiations, contract implementation, and compliance tracking/reporting.
  • Ensure contract compliance and key performance indicators reporting are established, monitored, and enforced. Identify, build, and maintain mutually beneficial relationships, partnerships, and alliances with select suppliers and business partners through Supplier Relationship lifecycle.
  • Lead financial management with key suppliers and support Finance and Accounting functions for accruals, financial compliance, and budget.
  • Support supplier life-cycle management including identification, selection, on-boarding, and performance management, reviews and approves purchases as authorized, and supports stakeholders and budget owners in negotiating major contracts. Partner with cross-functional leaders to develop, sponsor, and execute external manufacturing process and governance that is effective, and efficient, for enablement of improved supply assurance, risk management, quality performance, cost efficiency, and all other value drivers.
  • Establish relationships with internal business group leaders to provide periodic needs assessments and serve as a thought leader and technical resource.
  • Analyze marketplace research data and make recommendations related to suppliers and supply risks (evaluate and recommend the feasibility of suppliers) - this includes financial as well as business analysis of all suppliers.
  • Understands business objectives and translate those objectives into Procurement priorities
  • Work collaboratively with key business groups in Finance, IT and across the organization to proactively identify process, sourcing, and contract improvement opportunities within Vaxcyte.
  • Development and execution of multi-year category strategies as well as assessing risk of suppliers and materials and recommending risk mitigation plans
  • Continual improvements to performance metrics, programs/processes, and innovations to achieve higher levels of business value.

Requirements: 

Undergraduate Degree required. Advanced degree, diploma or certification in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or MBA strongly preferred. 15+ years of progressive experience in managing Sourcing or External Manufacturing Procurement processes in biotech, life sciences or a pharmaceutical environment with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a leader of cross-functional teams required. Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.

  • Strong organizational, management, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and professionalism required.

  • Financial acumen, experience in creating, managing, and adhering to budgets.
  • Ability to balance, prioritize, and resolve conflicts.

  • Relentless focus and passion around process improvements (efficiency and automation).

Compensation:
The compensation package will be competitive and includes comprehensive benefits and an equity component.
 
Salary Range: $310,000 - $360,000 (SF Bay Area). Salary ranges for non-California locations may vary.
