Factory Services Manager - Toronto 

The Factory Services Manager plays an essential role in driving the growth of our business and growing talent internally through leading the Maintenance and Facilities, Custodial and Environmental Health and Safety functions of our North American Manufacturing business. They oversee all strategic & operational aspects of these teams and functions.

Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, you will undertake the following 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Distribution and Warehouse Leadership to develop a strategy for Lush’s facilities and their continuous improvement
  • Oversee the design and evolution of factory facilities, operating rules and procedures in collaboration with the Global Manufacturing Board.
  • As part of the factory management team, engages in goal setting, short and long range facility planning.
  • Directly manage, mentor and develop the following team managers: Facilities, Maintenance and Environmental Health & Safety 
  • Lead all strategic operational aspects of Lush’s Facilities, Custodial, and EHS business functions
  • Ensure sustainable practices are embedded into facilities management and the manufacturing strategy
  • Lead and guide program implementation & maintenance, business continuity plans, environmental compliance and associated sustainability initiatives
  • Manage, plan, and coordinate, through each team, activities concerned with the operation, repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities, equipment, buildings, and grounds to minimize interruption and improve efficiency
  • Manage the planning & administration of annual departmental budget whilst monitoring and reducing costs 
  • Oversee contractor/supplier/vendor sourcing in compliance with Lush purchasing policies
  • Ensure best practices are achieved in every aspect of service delivery with a particular focus on cost, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Promote and lead an excellent workplace safety culture on all sites
  • Coordinate and manage the operational activities, programs, functions, services, and budget for facilities maintenance including technical and cost/benefit justification. Assists with the development of long-term capital plans for facility improvement, repairs and financial planning
  • Engage and guide local teams on the planning and execution of long range facility design
  • Oversee Project management of significant improvements to existing spaces of Canadian manufacturing and distribution facilities, including lease management, and as we grow, new site vetting, design, and build/implementation
  • Perform all project management activities: project planning and risk evaluation, identifying key resources and stakeholders, coordinate activities to reach project milestones, lead regular client meetings, provide updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee regular inspection and upkeep of all local buildings and site operations in the areas of facilities and equipment maintenance (electrical, power, plumbing, security and other auxiliary equipment), HVAC, ground-keeping, fire safety plans, crisis management are carried out effectively
  • Work with senior leadership in North America and the Global Manufacturing Board, to support the development and implementation of an expansion strategy
  • Partner and guide the reporting teams with manufacturing and distribution on equipment related requirements to satisfy KPI needs 
  • Manage and develop the team including:
    • Actively addressing the performance of your team. You balance analysis, experience, and perspective when making decisions about performance and co-create action plans to build skill, improve engagement, while demonstrating empathy and considering individuals.
    • Foster your team’s career development to build your bench of succession, maximize retention, minimize turnover, and build people's skills to support business needs.

Qualifications and experience

Required:

  • Based in the Greater Toronto Area and available to work on-site 5 days/week
  • 5+ years of related experience in CAPEX/Facilities/Maintenance/EHS or similar 
  • Proven project management experience
  • Outstanding leadership experience with proven ability to mentor and develop Leaders 
  • Proven experience in developing and launching business unit strategy 
  • Experience collaborating with senior leadership and cross departmental stakeholders 
  • Experience in managing equipment maintenance
  • Experience hiring, managing and coordinating contractors
  • Proven experience planning and administering departmental budgets
  • Ability to develop relationships and leverage business partners to complete tasks and achieve desired outcomes
  • Ability to read and understand all M.E.P plans, architectural plans and structural plans
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional, strategic projects 
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative and creative work environment
  • Self-motivated and results oriented with a focus on delivering high quality work
  • Ability to travel domestically (Canada) and internationally (including US and UK)

Preferred:

  • Experience within Lush Manufacturing and/or Distribution and a strong understanding of processes
  • Technical certificate or trade school qualifications
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and managing financial statements (P&L, Budgets, etc.)
  • Progressive  experience in engineering, production supervision or planning
  • A history of volunteerism in social, environmental, and animal rights
  • Lean training philosophy
