Michels is seeking an experienced Federal Project Manager to join our growing Federal Programs team. This role serves as a key liaison between Michels and federal clients—including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC)—to ensure successful project delivery. The Federal Project Manager will guide projects from award through completion by facilitating communication, ensuring compliance with federal requirements, and supporting construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.

This position manages federal projects across all Michels business lines, which may include heavy civil, infrastructure, energy, utilities, and other federal pursuits. The ideal candidate brings strong federal project management experience and excels in communication, coordination, and client relationship management. Deep technical expertise is helpful but not required; success relies on familiarity with federal processes and the ability to keep diverse, multi‑disciplinary projects aligned.

What it takes

  • Serve as the primary project interface with federal agencies and owners.
  • Represent Michels’ Federal Programs team and report to the Vice President of Federal Programs.
  • Coordinate closely with construction, engineering, safety, quality, and operational teams to support seamless project execution across various project types.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with USACE, NAVFAC, and other federal partners.
  • Facilitate project kickoffs, progress meetings, partnering sessions, and other communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support development and management of project schedules, submittals, documentation, and reporting required by federal contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with federal administrative and contractual requirements, including FAR/DFARS and agency-specific standards.
  • Assist with procurement coordination, subcontractor engagement, and project documentation—not responsible for P&L or financial performance.
  • Participate in proposal development, pre-bid activities, and project planning as needed.
  • Support issue resolution, risk identification, and resource coordination to ensure project success.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

What it takes - Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience on federal projects—experience may include heavy civil, infrastructure, energy, utility, or similar project types.
  • Required experience working with federal owners such as USACE and/or NAVFAC.
  • Familiarity with federal contracting requirements, FAR/DFARS, and agency-specific processes.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with construction teams and diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with Primavera P6 preferred.
