Field Safety Engineer, Japan / フィールド・セーフティ・エンジニア（日本）

The Waymo Safety team works to promote and help to continuously improve the safety of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our experts develop safety goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles for its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations.

This role is based in Tokyo, reporting to Waymo’s Senior Director, Safety based in California. As Waymo’s first Field Safety Engineer in Japan, you will serve as Waymo’s primary engineering/technical liaison with safety regulators in Japan, working closely with Waymo’s Policy, Legal, and other teams in Japan. You will also work with Waymo’s Field Safety team in the United States to identify and analyze issues that could impact the safety of Waymo’s fleet of autonomous vehicles, with a focus on issues specific to Waymo’s operations in Japan. 

この役職は東京を拠点とし、カリフォルニアを拠点とする Waymo のシニア ディレクター（セーフティ）にレポートします。Waymo の日本における最初のフィールド セーフティ エンジニアとして、日本の Waymo のポリシー、法務、その他のチームと緊密に連携しながら、日本の安全規制当局に対する Waymo の主要なエンジニアリング / 技術連絡窓口として業務を行います。また、米国の Waymo のフィールド セーフティ チームと連携し、日本での Waymo のオペレーションに特有の課題に焦点を当てながら、Waymo の自動運転車フリートの安全性に影響を及ぼす可能性のある問題を特定し、分析します。

You Will / 業務内容

• Be a native Japanese speaker, also proficient in English / 日本語を母語とし、英語にも堪能であること
• Serve as Waymo’s primary engineering/technical liaison with automotive and traffic safety regulators in Japan, e.g. Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) National Police Agency (NPA), and Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD). You will work with Waymo’s Policy, Legal, and other teams to establish and maintain proactive outreach with these regulators and also respond to requests from regulators. / 国土交通省（MLIT）、警察庁（NPA）、警視庁（TMPD）など、日本の自動車および交通安全規制当局に対する Waymo の主要なエンジニアリング / 技術連絡窓口を務めます。Waymo のポリシー、法務、その他のチームと連携し、これらの規制当局との積極的な連携関係を確立および維持するとともに、規制当局からの要請にも対応します。
• You will work with Waymo’s Field Safety team in the United States to identify and analyze issues that could impact the safety of Waymo’s fleet of autonomous vehicles, bringing your local Japan perspective to help identify and prioritize issues that could impact Waymo’s operations in Japan. / 米国の Waymo のフィールド セーフティ チームと連携して、Waymo の自動運転車フリートの安全性に影響を及ぼす可能性のある問題を特定して分析するとともに、日本に関する知見を活かして、日本での Waymo のオペレーションに影響する課題を特定し、優先順位付けを行います。

 

You Have / 必須条件

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical degree / 工学、コンピュータ サイエンス、または関連する技術分野の学士号
• 10+ years of engineering or other technical experience in automotive or another transportation field. / 自動車またはその他の輸送分野における 10 年以上のエンジニアリングまたはその他の技術分野での経験
• Experience with Japan’s automotive and/or transportation regulatory framework and familiarity with expectations when working with these regulators. / 日本の自動車および / または運輸分野の規制の枠組みに関する経験、ならびにこれらの規制当局と連携する際の期待事項への理解
• Strong communication and presentation skills in Japanese and the ability to establish and maintain professional presence with regulators in Japan. / 日本語での優れたコミュニケーション能力およびプレゼンテーション能力、ならびに日本の規制当局との専門的な関係を確立し維持できる能力
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with Policy, Legal, Operations, Engineering and other internal teams in Japan and in the United States. / 協調的な姿勢を有し、日本および米国のポリシー、法務、オペレーション、エンジニアリングなどの社内チームと効果的に連携できる能力

 

We Prefer / 歓迎条件

• M.S. or Ph.D. in engineering or a related technical field / 工学または関連する技術分野の修士号または博士号
• Experience interacting with automotive and traffic safety regulators. / 自動車および交通安全規制当局とのやり取りの経験
• Familiarity with autonomous vehicle technology / 自動運転技術に関する知識
• Experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly-scaling company / 急速に成長しているスピード感のある企業での勤務経験

 

 Travel requirements /  出張要件

• Up to 20% travel (Domestic & International) / 約 20% の出張（国内および海外）
