Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our team in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of our operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role will play a crucial part in driving financial leadership, planning, and decision-making to support the company's growth objectives. The position will be reporting to the Corporate Controller, Americas.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure proper resolutions are communicated – This includes ensuring all intercompany postings are in balance.
  • Work closely with our third-party accounting partners to ensure all month-end work is accurate and within Soho House reporting standards.
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functions.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing processes to ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions.
  • Coordinate the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors & New York Corporate office to facilitate the completion of audits and reviews in a timely manner.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to department heads and management teams to assist in budget preparation, cost control, and financial analysis.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in finance and accounting to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring the trial balance between the local ERP Vs Global ERP are aligned can readily explain analytical variances that may arise Month-over-Month.
  • Strong knowledge of local regulations and hospitality laws to ensure compliance for all financial
  • Ensure a robust internal control environment across accounting systems and operational processes.
  • Review and maintain contracts, licenses, financial controls.
  •  Build strong rapport and communication skills with many stakeholders, including local and regional teams, third party vendors, associations, corporate, etc.
  • Ability to manage, in a hands on capacity, a full financial team including accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, controllership, purchasing, and audit.
  • All other duties as assignment by supervisor.

Measures of Success:

  • Timely and Accurate Reporting: Deliver timely and accurate financial reports, forecasts, and analyses to senior management and stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration with department heads and functional teams, providing financial guidance and support to facilitate their success in achieving departmental objectives.
  • Budget Adherence: Ensure adherence to approved budgets across departments, tracking variances and implementing corrective actions as needed to mitigate risks and achieve financial targets.
  • Audit Preparedness: Successfully coordinate and support annual audits and reviews, ensuring timely completion with minimal discrepancies or findings, and implementing recommendations for process enhancements.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce manual interventions, contributing to improved operational effectiveness and cost savings.
  • Receivable Adherence: Ensure we are timely and accurately processing all receivable transactions by keeping the guest ledgers and cash control balance sheet accounts current.

Reports to: Corporate Controller, Americas

Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance or accounting roles, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • Extensive knowledge of Brazilian accounting standards and tax regulations; familiarity with UK-GAAP is a plus.
  • Proven track record of financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting in a hospitality or related industry.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in financial software, including CM-Flex, and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle -Fusion) Sage 200 preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese are required.
  • Strong knowledge in tax regimes, key hospitality related taxes, Brazilian labor legislation.
