A Maintenance Worker job is available with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department/Solid Waste Division. This position will assist with the collection, consolidation and storage of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). The position will have consistent interaction with the citizens of Fort Worth and the surrounding cities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hazardous waste consolidation
  • Vehicle trailering experience
  • Equipment preventive maintenance experience

The Maintenance Worker job responsibilities include: 

  • Operates a variety of hand and small power tools and equipment such as push mowers, weed eaters, shovels, rakes, trucks, pick axes, and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations
  • Performs operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment
  • Cuts grass (zero-turn mower), maintains sprinkler system, waters trees and landscape, trims trees and bushes, picks up litter, places mulch around landscape, pulls weeds, power washes where containers/compactors are located, installs and posts signs, maintains tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Programs sprinkler system and troubleshoot equipment at the Convenience Centers
  • Transports non-hazardous waste utilizing a pickup and trailer
  • Transporting (loading & unloading) shred carts
  • Ability to follow General departmental/section policies and regulations
  • Ability to follow daily safety practices
  • Ability to input data into an Environmental software program

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils, and workspace restrictions.

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
