We are looking for a driven and knowledgeable Medicines Management Technician (MMT) to join our forward-thinking NHS primary care team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a registered technician ready to step outside their comfort zone and contribute meaningfully to safe, efficient, and evidence-based prescribing.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician who wants to expand their scope and make a meaningful impact on medicines optimisation in NHS primary care. Your role is likely to evolve and adapt to business needs, giving you the chance to take on new challenges, grow your expertise, and develop as a well-rounded healthcare professional.
The MMT will play a vital role in medicines reconciliation, high-risk medication monitoring, repeat prescription management, QOF support, and clinical governance across NHS services. You'll work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team - including GPs, pharmacists, nurses, and ICB colleagues to optimise patient care and prescribing practice.
Please note: Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Primarily remote working, with the requirement to attend the Euston (London) office up to 2 days per month, depending on business needs.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON:
- Medicines Reconciliation and Optimisation
- Medicines Management Enhanced Service: Implement the Medicines Management Enhanced Service Specification and promote cost-effective prescribing practices.
- Prescription Management: Oversee repeat prescription and electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) requests to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Service Design and Improvement: Contribute to the design and setup of new services aimed at improving medicines reconciliation and prescribing processes. Focus on improving medicines safety and optimising patient outcomes.
- Policy Development and Training: Write and update policies related to prescribing and the prescription process. Make recommendations and provide training/support on new policies and services to ensure continuous improvements in medicines safety and efficiency.
- Collaboration with Clinicians: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinicians across the organisation, including pharmacists, GPs, and nurses, to promote safe, cost-effective prescribing.
- Data Analysis: Extract, analyse, and interpret prescribing data, as well as incident reports, to ensure prescribing practices are safe and cost-effective.
- Responding to Queries: Address queries from the Head Office Clinical team, remote clinicians, patients and the Support team in a timely manner.
- Monitoring MHRA Alerts: Actively monitor and respond to appropriate MHRA alerts affecting the service.
- High-Risk Prescribing Areas: Monitor and manage high-risk prescribing, including controlled drugs, antibiotics, and high-risk medicines, ensuring appropriate action is taken to minimise risks.
- Service Improvement and KPIs: Demonstrate the success of interventions and service improvements using KPIs.
- Collaboration with ICB Pharmacists: Routinely liaise with ICB pharmacists and technicians to ensure key Quality Indicators are met and maintain a high standard of service delivery.
- Audit and Prescribing Efficiency: Audit prescribing practices across the practice to ensure alignment with local prescribing guidance (e.g., NWL) and efficiency protocols.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- GPHC Registered Medicines Management Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Experience using SystmOne is preferred but not essential—strong IT skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new digital systems are required.
Desirable:
- Experience in a primary care setting.
- Experience working in a GP practice or within an ICB role.
- Experience in setting up new services and improving existing ones.
- Familiarity with data analysis and interpretation from EPACT (e.g., prescribing patterns, cost-effectiveness).
- CPPE pathway enrolment or relevant CPD in medicines management.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Salary: £32,000 yearly
- 25 days holiday + eMed flex-leave
- 5% employer pension contribution
- Life Insurance 4x annual base salary
- Health cash plan
- Employee Assistance Program
