Product Owner

PGWay · Lisbon, Portugal

onsitefull-timemid level

About this role

We’re seeking an experienced and dynamic Product Owner to join PGWay — a next-generation fintech company specializing in secure, reliable, and high-performance payment gateway solutions tailored for modern digital businesses. Our mission is to simplify complex payment flows, improve transaction success rates, and deliver seamless payment experiences globally.

With a focus on scalability, innovation, and compliance, we support high-volume transactional environments, offering everything from payment widgets and back-office tools to advanced analytics. At PGWay, we combine cutting-edge technology with a customer-first mindset to help our partners grow and thrive in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

Reporting to the Director of Product, you’ll drive the reliability, performance, and support of our payment gateway, payment widget, and back-office platforms. This is a pivotal leadership role ideal for someone passionate about building high-performing teams, implementing robust processes, and fostering a culture of proactive problem-solving and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring it's meticulously prioritized, clearly defined, and aligned with the overall product strategy and company objectives
  • Guide features from initial concept through requirements gathering, development, testing, deployment, and post-release iteration. You'll be the driving force, actively shepherding enhancements from idea to production
  • Translate high-level product roadmap items into detailed user stories and acceptance criteria, ensuring clarity and readiness for development
  • Partner with Product Managers to clarify feature requirements, understand business context, and define key objectives. You'll actively participate in brainstorming, prioritization, and acceptance criteria definition
  • Act as the primary liaison between stakeholders (product management, business, sales, marketing, customers) and the development team, facilitating effective communication and understanding of requirements.
  • Act as the clear owner and subject-matter expert for your assigned product module, deeply understanding its business logic, customer impact, and technical boundaries
  • Facilitate backlog grooming and sprint planning sessions, ensuring tasks are well-understood and ready for development. You'll proactively follow up on execution progress, remove blockers, and drive team accountability on deliverables and deadlines
  • Participate in all agile ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives) as a core member of the scrum team
  • Continuously refine and groom the backlog, ensuring stories are "ready" for development and anticipating future needs
  • Work closely with the development team to clarify requirements, answer questions, and ensure the delivered product meets the defined specifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience (3+ years) as a Product Owner in an agile development environment
  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with product backlog management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello)
  • A strong customer-centric mindset with a passion for building great products.

 Benefits

  • Learning and development opportunities and interesting, challenging tasks
  • Relocation package (tickets, staying in a hotel for up to 2 weeks, and visa relocation support for our employees and their family members)

  • Urban Sport membership benefit (the most diverse sports and wellness offering in Europe, with more than 50+ activities)
  • Private medical coverage, including inpatient, outpatient, dental care, annual check-ups, and maternity support
  • Time for proper rest, with 24 non-business days per year and an additional 6 paid sick days
  • Transport compensation - 200 euros net per month
  • Competitive remuneration level with annual review
  • Teambuilding activities
