QA Engineering Manager

Product Development

Location: London office / Hybrid (2 days per week in the office)
Reporting to: QA Manager

The role

At Rightmove, we’re on a mission to make the move easier and simpler — giving everyone the best place to turn to and return to for the tools, expertise and trust to make it happen. Home movers across the UK spend over a billion minutes on Rightmove each month, and our website and apps receive more than 150 million visits every month.

As a QA Engineering Manager, you’ll help teams build quality in from the very start — not “test at the end”. QA at Rightmove is a mindset: we test throughout, prevent issues rather than detect them, and champion quality as a shared, whole‑team responsibility.

You’ll lead and support a group of QAs, strengthen our QA community of practice, and work closely with Engineering Managers, Product and Design to continually improve how we build and ship software. You’ll also partner with the QA Manager to shape and deliver our QA strategy and roadmap.

We welcome applications from experienced QA professionals who are looking to step into an Engineering Manager role for the first time — we’ll support you as you grow into leadership.

How we work

Product Development plays a pivotal role in delivering the consumer and customer digital experience at Rightmove. We work in autonomous, cross‑functional teams made up of product, design, engineering and QA, each owning a meaningful part of the Rightmove experience and working together towards our strategy.

We work in a hybrid way and focus on outcomes rather than hours. We trust people to find a working rhythm that suits them, their team and their life.

What success looks like in this role (first 6–12 months)

You don’t need to do everything on day one. Success in this role typically looks like:

  • Your QA team feels supported, coached and clear on their development, with strong 1:1s and feedback rhythms in place.
  • Quality is being considered earlier and more consistently across teams, with fewer late surprises and clearer quality signals.
  • The QA community of practice is active and valuable — sharing learning, improving consistency and evolving how QA works at Rightmove.
  • You’re contributing meaningfully to the QA strategy and roadmap, turning ideas into pragmatic experiments and improvements.
  • Stakeholders trust you as a calm, collaborative leader who brings people with them and improves ways of working.

A typical week

No two weeks are the same, but you’ll usually balance:

  • Coaching and supporting individual QAs on growth, development and day‑to‑day challenges.
  • Strengthening learning and knowledge sharing through the QA community of practice.
  • Working with the QA Manager to deliver against the QA strategy and roadmap.
  • Partnering with other Engineering Managers to continuously improve engineering practices.
  • Collaborating with Product Owners to shape inclusive, effective ways of working that help teams deliver against objectives.
  • Taking part in wider Rightmove cultural initiatives.
  • Hiring great people for long‑term success and creating an excellent, inclusive candidate experience.
  • Keeping up to date with QA practices and experimenting with new ideas to improve effectiveness.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a leader who helps others do their best work and raises quality outcomes by influencing how teams build and ship software. You don’t need to meet every point below — if you recognise yourself in several of these areas, we’d love to hear from you.

People leadership and coaching

  • You enjoy coaching, developing and supporting people with different levels of experience.
  • You create an environment of openness, trust and honesty, where people feel safe to raise concerns early and learn from mistakes.
  • You actively listen and help teams navigate challenges with clarity and empathy.

Quality leadership (quality as a mindset)

  • You have a genuine passion for QA as a practice, with strong experience in the field.
  • You champion quality beyond functional testing, including areas such as accessibility, security, privacy and resilience.
  • You’re pragmatic and context‑driven, choosing the right approach for the situation rather than following a single playbook.
  • You focus on delivering value in the best way, not just completing tasks.

Collaboration, influence and improvement

  • You collaborate effectively and adapt your style to work well with different stakeholders.
  • You’re able to build support and buy‑in through clear communication and thoughtful influence, rather than authority alone.
  • You enjoy trying new ideas and learning from both success and failure.
  • You use tools and technology where they genuinely improve QA effectiveness.
  • You hold high standards and encourage those around you to do the same.

What we care about most

We care much more about the person you are, how you think and how you approach problems than a list of qualifications or buzzwords on a CV. If you don’t tick every box above but are thoughtful, motivated and passionate about delivering a great user experience, we’d really encourage you to apply.

We also know that people from underrepresented backgrounds don’t always apply unless they meet every requirement. If this role excites you but you’re unsure whether you meet everything listed, we’d still love to hear from you.

Our Approach to AI

At Rightmove, we believe software and product are ultimately people problems, and everything we build aims to improve the lives of others. We see AI as a helpful way to create more space for the human side of our work, from understanding real needs to making sure we are solving the right problems in the right way. There is an expectation that you are proactive in exploring how AI can support your own workflow and productivity, and that you approach it with curiosity and an open mind.
