Senior BIM | VDC Designer (Revit & Plant 3D Expert) (Buildings)

General Matter · Los Angeles, CA

About this role

About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America. Our mission is to restore our country’s ability to make nuclear fuel. Our fuel will help power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will power our next generation of reactors. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions. We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and we are backed by top tier investors.  Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency.

Senior BIM | VDC Designer (Revit & Plant 3D Expert)

About the Role General Matter is seeking a Senior BIM Lead / VDC Manager to spearhead our digital construction and high-fidelity modeling efforts for a first-of-its-kind nuclear enrichment facility. This is a highly technical, hands-on leadership role. We are not looking for a passive coordinator; we need a “player-coach” who is as comfortable building complex, parametric Revit families and routing process piping in Plant 3D as they are leading a coordination meeting.

You will be the primary architect of our virtual construction environment, bridging the gap between high-level engineering intent and the granular, “bolts-and-welds” requirements of industrial contractors. You will own the model, ensuring that millions of square feet of complex infrastructure are conflict-free, data-rich, and ready for fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Hands-on Modeling: Actively build and maintain high-LOD models (350-400) for complex structural and mechanical systems; this role requires being "in the weeds" of the model daily.
  • Lead Multidisciplinary Coordination: Run Navisworks Manage clash detection workshops, personally resolving spatial conflicts between process piping, heavy structure, and electrical busways.
  • Direct Software Integration: Manage the live data exchange between Revit, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Navisworks, ensuring no loss of intelligence between architectural and industrial piping environments.
  • Automate Workflows: Develop and deploy custom Dynamo scripts or Python-based add-ins to automate repetitive tasks, validate model health, and extract data for procurement.
  • Own the Common Data Environment (CDE): Perform the technical administration of our BIM 360/ACC environment, including model linking, permissions, and synchronization for the entire project team.
  • VDC Fabrication Support: Develop "shop-drawing ready" models and 4D sequences to support field operations, ensuring the model acts as the single source of truth for construction.
  • Conduct Model Audits: Perform rigorous, hands-on health checks to ensure compliance with project standards, taking direct corrective action within the files when necessary.
  • Reality Capture Integration: Process point cloud data from laser scans like Matterport and integrate as-built conditions back into the live BIM environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • 10+ years of experience in BIM/VDC roles, with a proven track record of hands-on delivery on mega-projects ($500M+).
  • Expert-level proficiency (Keyboard-ready) in Revit, Navisworks Manage, and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Deep experience in "Boots on the Ground" VDC, either within a large-scale MEP/Industrial contractor or a high-output design-build consultancy.
  • Expert understanding of ISO 19650 and the technical requirements for managing a complex CDE.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Contractor-Side Expertise: Prior experience in a VDC department for a General Contractor or Trade Partner, specifically with self-perform mechanical or structural scopes.
  • Computational Mastery: Demonstrated ability to write Dynamo or Python scripts to solve complex Revit API challenges.
  • Interoperability Expert: Proven ability to move high-fidelity data between Revit, Plant 3D, and structural analysis tools like RISA or Tekla.
  • Professional Certification: Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit for Structural or Mechanical Design.
  • Field Technology: Experience with Faro/Leica laser scanning and integrating reality capture into the BIM workflow.

Why General Matter

  • Scale & Complexity: Lead the digital twin effort for a technically challenging project where the "hands-on" quality of your work directly impacts national infrastructure.
  • Technical Autonomy: Join a team that values engineering "doers" over administrators; you will have the tools and the authority to shape our digital construction culture.
  • Innovation: Work at the cutting edge of BIM-to-Fabrication, where your models drive the physical construction of next-generation nuclear facilities.

About General Matter

General Matter is enriching uranium in America. Our missio n is to restore US leadership in nuclear fuel. This fuel will power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will enable the next generation of reactors and the reactors powering ~20% of the US grid today. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions. If we don’t do it, no one will. Half a century ago, the US held a majority of all global enrichment capacity. Today we are forced to rely on foreign powers and their state-backed, state-controlled entities for the nuclear fuel that powers nearly 20% of our nation’s grid. We are fixing this. By uniting the nation’s finest minds from technology, nuclear engineering, national security, and finance, we are building a new way to enrich uranium, here at home. The fuel we are enriching will be cheaper, more reliable, and more abundant than ever before, and it will result in a stronger America. As we build our team we are seeking the highest caliber engineers, technologists, creative minds, and numbers savants. We offer high standards, extreme ownership, copious autonomy, deep trust, and zero politics. We believe that despite our ambitious mission, our chances of su...
