Senior Counsel, Regulatory / シニア・カウンセル（規制法務担当）

As part of Waymo's Legal team, you will work on the exciting legal issues surrounding our transformational autonomous driving technology and help drive our business lines forward from technology ideation through scaled commercial deployment.  We partner with our public policy, safety, security and privacy experts to define transportation policy for the autonomous driving world to come, advising on regulatory changes that support and protect our users around the world.  We collaborate with our engineering, product, strategy and operations teams to develop and protect our intellectual property portfolio and drive our corporate and commercial transactions. We ensure compliance with an increasingly complex and dynamic range of global regulations. And we anticipate, mitigate, and litigate high-profile and precedent-setting legal matters.

In this hybrid role you will report directly to our Managing Counsel - Regulatory, Policy, Product.

You will / 業務内容: 

• Develop vision, strategy, and implementation for complying with a range of regulations - this includes interpreting legacy legal and regulatory frameworks that didn’t contemplate our novel technology and advising on new laws and regulations developed with AVs and related emerging technology in mind. / さまざまな規制を遵守するためのビジョン、戦略、実装計画を策定します。これには、Waymo の新技術を想定していない従来の法律や規制の枠組みを解釈し、自動運転車および関連の新興技術を考慮して新たに規定される法律と規制について助言することが含まれます。
• Advise on matters at the local, state, federal, and international levels, with an emphasis on Japan  (e.g. requirements to operate on public roads; legislative review and drafting of proposed legislation and regulations). / 日本を主な対象として、地域、都道府県、全国、国際レベルの諸問題（公道での運行要件や、法律と規制の草案作成や法的審査など）について助言します。
• Engage in cross-functional planning efforts to ensure that regulatory compliance and strategy are properly incorporated into the project roadmap. / 部門を横断した計画立案作業に従事し、規制遵守に関する計画と戦略をプロジェクト ロードマップに適切に組み込みます。
• Respond to novel questions of law on various topics, including issues that may be new to you and/or the company. / ご自身や会社にとって新しい問題を含め、さまざまなトピックに関する法律の新たな問題点に対処します。
• Provide counsel on proposed legislation and regulations and in negotiations among stakeholders. / 法律と規制の草案やステークホルダー間の交渉について助言します。
• Collaborate with our Policy team on advocacy strategies for engaging with regulators and policymakers. / ポリシーチームと協力して、規制当局や政策立案者に働きかけるためのアドボカシー戦略に取り組みます。

You have / 必要な条件/経験:

• Law degree (equivalent to LLB, LLM or JD) / 法学の学位（LLB、LLM、または JD に相当するもの）を取得されている方。
• Admitted to practice law in Japan. / 日本の弁護士資格をお持ちの方。
• Bilingual in Japanese and English, with ability to communicate and translate concepts effectively with colleagues in the United States. / 日本語と英語の両方に堪能で、米国にいる同僚と効果的にコミュニケーションを取り、概念を翻訳する能力がある方。
• 8+ years of experience as an attorney at a firm, in-house at a company, or in government. / 法律事務所、企業、または政府機関の弁護士として 8 年以上勤務した経験がある方。
• Experience with regulatory and legislative matters in Japan (e.g. engaging in rulemaking processes, advising on legislative bill text, building regulatory compliance programs for a rapidly scaling company with a range of partners). / 日本の規制と法律の問題に携わった経験（規則の制定プロセスへの関与、法案の条文に関する助言、多様なパートナーと協力して急成長中の企業のために規制遵守プログラムを構築した経験など）がある方。
