More about the role:

As a Senior Director at Burson, you will be passionate about and have a progressive understanding of the Corporate Public Affairs practice to drive the advancement of our business and our clients. You will be a strategic and creative thinker and use insights to guide brainstorms and ideate with cross-functional teams on client briefs. You will be responsible for effectively managing and leading teams with revenue targets, proactively seeking new business opportunities, and responding to RFPs within the Hong K region.

What you'll do:

  • Business Development and Client Service:

    • Oversee a significant portfolio of clients and demonstrate the ability to profitably grow clients and build long-term relationships
    • Lead our new business development process by proactively developing business contacts through professional activities and networking events
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the clients’ business and industry, stay current on news, trends, and issues, in particular within the corporate industry, and take an active interest in the client’s business to pre-empt issues and provide strategic counsel
    • Lead on global planning for new products and client initiatives and produce high quality, creative and thoughtful proposals that will generate coverage, drive buzz on social and increase share of voice
    • Build and maintain relationships with decision-makers on the client side and take a lead role in resolving issues or concerns
    • Maintain a strong rapport with journalists/bloggers/media members who cover your clients’ industries and businesses to optimize channels.
  • Talent Management:

    • Coach, mentor and delegate responsibilities to junior staff helping them identify their areas of development and consistently serve as a positive role model fostering teamwork
    • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment that engages all individuals without bias and demonstrate flexibility in a changing work environment
    • Provide continuous constructive feedback- not just during performance reviews- and keep immediate superiors briefed on team member performance ensuring recognition of good performance and resolution of concerns in a timely manner
    • Guide and inspire junior staff to develop media contacts and strategies.
  • Agency Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the company’s success through marketing efforts and engaging with the Burson community
    • Deliver company credentials knowledgeably and confidently showing an in-depth understanding of the agency's full offering and capabilities
    • Market Burson to clients and establish and maintain the reputation and perceived value of the agency; continuously reinforce Burson’s uniqueness to clients
    • Identify thought leadership opportunities to enhance Burson’s reputation externally to potential clients and attract new hires.

Experience that contributes to success:

  • 7-10 years professional experience in roles of increasing complexity and geographic reach
  • Experience in handling communications responsibilities with a focus on corporate and financial communication (corporate communication and crisis management)
  • Solid local business and finance media relations is a must
  • Experience in dealing with cross-market counterparts is a plus
  • Experience in handling regional / international account experience is a plus
  • Superior professionalism with clients and internal teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well and proven ability to present eloquently and confidently to senior stakeholders
  • Rich Experience in working with Chinese clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including translation skills, in English, Cantonese and Mandarin is a must
