Position Overview:

Acadian is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on development for enterprise systems supporting the firm’s Cash Flow Services platform and related operational workflows. This role combines architecture ownership, technical leadership, and hands-on delivery. The Lead Engineer is responsible for setting technical direction, ensuring scalable and reliable solutions, and guiding the engineering team to deliver production-ready systems that support critical operational processes. The role requires someone who can translate architectural thinking into working systems, mentor engineers, and act as the technical voice for the platform across teams.

Acadian supports a hybrid work environment, with employees on-site in the Boston office 3 days a week.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define and evolve the architecture for cash flow and operational workflow systems.
  • Identify systemic risks, technical debt, and scaling challenges and propose pragmatic improvements.
  • Establish development standards, design patterns, and technical guardrails.
  • Own the end-to-end technical delivery of major initiatives from design through production deployment.
  • Ensure architecture decisions translate into working solutions delivered on time.
  • Remove technical blockers and maintain consistent delivery momentum across sprints.
  • Mentor engineers and promote strong engineering practices including design reviews, code reviews, and documentation.
  • Structure and distribute work across engineers to ensure balanced ownership and avoid bottlenecks.
  • Promote shared ownership of systems and reduce knowledge silos.
  • Act as the technical representative for the platform in cross-team discussions.
  • Communicate design decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Partner with business teams to ensure systems support evolving operational needs.
  • Improve reliability, monitoring, and observability of production systems.
  • Identify recurring operational issues and address root causes through systemic improvements.

We’re Looking for Teammates With:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience acting as a technical lead or senior engineer guiding development teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core, C#, and SQL Server.
  • Experience designing data models, APIs, and integration services.
  • Prior experience in financial services or investment management environments is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead technical discussions and influence decisions.
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum or Kanban).
  • Experience with Appian or other low-code workflow platforms, especially in operational or process automation contexts.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into enterprise systems (e.g., APIs, automation, decision support, or data-driven workflows).
  • Preferred experience: AWS, Snowflake, containers, infrastructure-as-code.
