Job Description

As our Senior Payroll Officer, you will take primary ownership of New Zealand payroll cycles (fortnightly and monthly) while providing expert oversight and backup support for the payruns of our three additional entities. You will be responsible for the integrity of our payroll data across the group, ensuring full compliance with regional legislations and internal policies while driving accuracy across multiple pay frequencies.

This role is based in Chippendale, NSW and reports to the Payroll Manager.

You will…

  • Take primary ownership of the end-to-end New Zealand pay cycle, while providing oversight and processing support for the weekly, fortnightly and monthly payruns across our three additional entities.
  • Interpret and apply various Modern Awards to ensure all employees are paid according to their legal entitlement.
  • Process and audit all statutory deductions and contributions across the group, including Superannuation, Child Support, PAYG, KiwiSaver, PAYE and Student Loan deductions.
  • Assist with, and provide support with the calculation and lodgement of monthly Payroll Tax across relevant states, ensuring all taxable wages are captured and reported accurately.
  • Monitor and apply legislative updates including Fair Work Awards, NES and New Zealand Employment legislation (including the Holiday Act and KiwiSaver).
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll end-of-period reports, including month-end accruals and ad-hoc analyses such as benefit audits and WGEA reporting and other regulatory filings.
  • Calculate and process complex payments, including final pays, redundancy payments, WC claims and other off-cycle adjustments.
  • Maintain payroll master data and system integrity across the group to ensure data security and accuracy.
  • Mentor and manage the workload of the payroll team under the direction of the Payroll Manager ANZ.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for payroll queries, providing high level customer service and resolving escalated issues for employees and managers.
  • Drive process efficiencies and support Payroll Manager in executing group-wide projects and strategic initiatives, including but not limited to system upgrades, EOFY reconciliations and the implementation of the new payroll technologies or policies.
  • Partner with a variety of cross-functional stakeholders on a day-to-day basis, providing expert advice and ensuring payroll alignment with Finance, HR and Operational leadership.

You have…

  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience managing end-to-end payroll within a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Deep knowledge of Modern Awards and National Employment Standards; experience with Storage and Wholesale Award or Food, Beverage and Tobacco Manufacturing Award is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with New Zealand payroll is highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience in ADP Payforce or ADP Realtime (Kronos) is highly regarded, but not essential.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to partner with stakeholders and a genuine interest in mentoring and cross-training other team members.
