Senior Technology Operations Engineer

Role Purpose

Why this role matters:

To lead and operate the organization’s Core Network, ensuring its reliability, security, and optimal performance. This role is responsible for overseeing core network elements (including but not limited to HLR/HSS, STP, DSC, SS7 Firewall, and future additions), driving planning and operations, implementing strategic initiatives, and supporting delivery of high-quality telecommunication services across multiple technologies.

• Ensure high availability (99.999%) of core network systems through strong operations and disaster recovery readiness.
• Deliver network expansion, integration, and upgrade initiatives aligned with the technology roadmap.
• Maintain high service quality by resolving customer issues within SLA and continuously improving network performance.
• Enable effective collaboration with hosting MNOs, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

● Develop and execute strategies for core network expansion, optimization, and upgrades in line with the technology roadmap.
● Design, implement, and maintain core network systems and integrations with hosting MNOs (e.g., Diameter, CAP, SIP, and future interfaces) to deliver services across 2G, 4G, 5G, and VoLTE.
● Manage roaming expansion, including technical testing and TAP file verification, and oversee device certification to enhance VoLTE service experience.
● Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and robust provisioning flows across Virgin Mobile and hosting MNO networks.
● Manage and resolve customer trouble tickets within agreed SLAs, collaborating with vendors to identify root causes and implement fixes.
● Plan and deliver network-related and cross-functional projects, working closely with IT, system administration, and vendors to ensure secure and stable infrastructure.
● Manage vendor relationships, support OPCOs, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational policies.

Qualifications & Attributes

We’re seeking someone who embodies the following:

Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in telecommunications, or equivalent experience supported by additional training, courses, or seminars.

Experience:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in mobile network implementation within defined timelines.
• Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize activities.

Technical Skills:

Must-haves:

• Deep understanding of mobile core network technologies (e.g., HLR/HSS, STP, DSC, SS7 Firewall) and signalling protocols (Diameter, CAP, SIP), along with international telecommunication standards.
• Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and operating core network systems across 2G, 4G, 5G, and VoLTE environments.
• Proven ability to manage integrations with hosting MNOs and ensure robust provisioning flows across core networks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex network issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions in collaboration with vendors.

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience working with Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs).
