Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Team/Project Leader to join our dynamic Energy Group at our Columbus, OH office. The Team/Project Leader will split duties between technical project leadership (70%) and personnel management (30%). Projects can require site civil design and plan production (grading, stormwater management) and QC, municipal permitting (e.g. CC plans) and coordination, direct client support, and assistant project manager duties (financial tracking, project meetings and notes, assisting with proposals).  The Team/Project Leader is also responsible for managing a team of engineers and technical staff in multiple offices, including promoting the growth of the team and individual team members. The Energy Team/Project Leader collaboratively performs goal setting for the team, performance reviews, personnel changes, and coordinates interviews and hiring of technical team members when appropriate.

What You Will Do:

  • Support project managers to develop engineering design, drive execution of deliverables, and provide client support. 
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce engineering plans and exhibits. 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure project objectives (scope, schedule, budget, deliverables) are met in accordance with established metrics. 
  • Provide technical expertise in site/civil design, hydrology/hydraulics, erosion and sedimentation control, slope stability, and stormwater management. Mentor and coach less experienced staff in these activities.  
  • Support permitting with County and local municipalities.  Experience with local municipalities is a plus. 
  • Work closely with project management team to identify challenges, and develop and implement solutions. 
  • Drive establishment of employee goals, provide regular feedback, and work with technical team members to achieve performance and career development goals.  
  • Support individual and overall team health by initiating and facilitating regular communication.  
  • Review time sheets, ensuring accuracy with Project Leads.  
  • Coordinate with Project Managers/Project Leads to ensure team resource planning and individual workloads are balanced.  
  • Ensure job requisitions are posted, review resumes, coordinate interviews, and hire technical team members.  

What You Will Bring:

  • A minimum of 5+ years site/civil design experience required; 10+ years preferred.  
  • Strong preference for candidates located in the state of Ohio with ability to regularly visit the Columbus office (Easton area).  
  • Proven experience with codes and regulations, creating engineering plans, designing storm water facilities, site grading, and local and state permitting.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and stormwater management calculations.  Experience with HydroCAD, Autodesk Vehicle Tracking, Bluebeam, ArcGIS, Microsoft Suite, and other relevant software a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for, organize, and manage project tasks. Experience with delegating work, writing proposals, or project budgeting are a plus.  
  • Ability to provide excellent client service in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail, and analytical skills to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities. 
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative and work collaboratively in a team environment; this position champions mentoring and professional development. 
  • Desire for personal leadership development.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Pay Range
$120,000—$140,000 USD
