Team mission

As a Software Engineer (Backend focused) on the Developer Enablement Team, you’ll contribute to building and maintaining tools and platforms that empower GetYourGuide’s diverse engineering teams, including those working in Java, JavaScript, Python, and beyond. Your work will focus on streamlining CI/CD pipelines (using GitHub Actions and ArgoCD), managing GitHub access, enhancing testing tools, improving local development workflows, and enabling AI-assisted engineering. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with strong backend fundamentals, a hunger to learn, and a drive to make a meaningful impact on developer productivity.

Your mission

  • Maintain CI/CD Pipelines: Support and enhance CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions for continuous integration and ArgoCD for continuous deployment, ensuring reliable and efficient delivery of services.
  • Manage GitHub Access: Administer GitHub repositories, permissions, and workflows to enable secure and seamless collaboration across engineering teams.
  • Improve Testing Tools: Develop and maintain tooling to enhance automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end) for Java, JavaScript, and Python projects, reducing friction and improving code quality.
  • Enhance Local Development: Build and maintain tools to simplify local development environments, enabling engineers to spin up and test services quickly and consistently.
  • Enable AI-Assisted Engineering: Help maintain and evolve our in-house AI agent and related developer workflows and tooling, and support adoption of AI tools across engineering teams.
  • Support Diverse Engineers: Collaborate with Java, JavaScript, and Python developers to understand their needs and deliver cross-language tooling that boosts productivity and reduces toil.
  • Contribute Pragmatically: Write clean, maintainable code for backend systems and tools, focusing on practical solutions that balance immediate needs with long-term scalability.
  • Learn and Iterate: Experiment with new tools and practices, using feedback and usage metrics to refine solutions and drive adoption across teams.
  • Grow Through Collaboration: Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and team discussions to learn from senior engineers and share your insights.

Your toolkit

  • Emerging Engineer: 2+ years of backend development experience with at least one of Java, JavaScript/Node.js, or Python, and a willingness to work across multiple languages.
  • Eager Learner: Curious and proactive, with a strong desire to master new tools, technologies, and practices through hands-on experience and mentorship.
  • Impact-Driven: Passionate about delivering tools that make engineers’ lives easier and support GetYourGuide’s mission to create unforgettable travel experiences.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: Able to deliver practical, effective solutions, iterating based on feedback and focusing on what drives the most value.
  • Data-Curious: Interested in using metrics (e.g., pipeline performance, tool adoption rates) to validate and improve your work, even if you’re still learning data-driven approaches.
  • Collaborative Team Player: A proactive communicator who thrives in a diverse, supportive team environment. Fluent in English.
  • Tech Fundamentals: Familiarity with Git, cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), and CI/CD concepts.

Extras that give you an edge

  • Experience with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar tools.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, Docker, testing frameworks
  • Experience with creation of tools/automations that improved developer productivity (bonus: AI-assisted workflows)

How we’ll make your career journey extraordinary

  • Annual personal growth budget and mentorship programs for continuous learning and development
  • Work from anywhere in the world for 30 days per year
  • A hybrid working approach with three days of in office collaboration (Mon, Tue, Thur) and two days of optional at home focus time.
  • Opportunities to collaborate and socialize with team members through quarterly team events and yearly company-wide events
  • Monthly transportation and fitness budget
  • Discounts for you, your friends, and family on GetYourGuide activities
