Software Engineering Manager — Usage & Monetization

Harness · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

onsitefull-timemid level

About this role

Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.

Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.

Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.

With a global team across 14 offices and 25 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.

Position Summary

Harness is on the lookout for a dynamic Software Engineering Manager to lead the evolution of our next-generation Usage, Billing, and Entitlement Platform — a mission-critical system that powers how every Harness product operates and delivers value to customers. This is not just about billing — it’s about building the economic engine of a cloud platform that processes millions of real-time events per day, drives insights, and enables AWS-level scalability and transparency for our customers.

Why this role matters: You’ll be at the center of how Harness measures, monetizes, and delivers customer value — designing systems that handle streaming data pipelines, large-scale event ingestion, real-time metering, and distributed entitlement logic across multiple products. Your work will directly shape the way customers experience Harness — ensuring fairness, precision, and performance in a system that’s as core to the platform as compute, storage, or security.

What you’ll do
  • Lead a distributed team of engineers to build and operate large-scale, low-latency services capable of processing millions of usage events daily.
  • Architect and implement the core event processing and data infrastructure behind usage tracking, metering, billing, and licensing across the Harness product suite.
  • Partner with product and platform teams to define APIs, data contracts, and architecture that ensure seamless, real-time customer visibility into usage and costs.
  • Drive excellence in operability, reliability, and performance, building systems that can scale effortlessly and self-heal under load.
  • Stay hands-on — review code, contribute to key architectural components, and mentor engineers to push technical boundaries.
  • Shape the technical roadmap and long-term strategy for how Harness manages value exchange at platform scale.
What you bring
  • Leadership depth: 3+ years leading high-performing backend or platform engineering teams.
  • Technical mastery: 5+ years building SaaS platforms in Java or Go, with hands-on experience designing distributed systems and data-intensive pipelines.
  • Scalability mindset: Strong experience in event-driven or streaming architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.) and low-latency, high-throughput systems.
  • Customer impact focus: A track record of building systems that deliver clarity, reliability, and trust to enterprise customers.
  • Operational excellence: Skilled in managing on-call rotations, incident response, and continuous improvement of production systems.
  • Collaborative DNA: Comfortable working across global teams, product boundaries, and complex technical domains.
Why you’ll love it here
  • You’ll own a core platform that every Harness product depends on — shaping business models, enabling innovation, and driving transparency for customers.
  • You’ll work with world-class engineers on problems of scale, data integrity, and reliability that few startups get to tackle this early.
  • You’ll be part of an organization that believes in autonomy, ownership, and engineering excellence — where great ideas move fast from design to production.
