About this role

About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our mission is to restore our country’s ability to make nuclear fuel. Our fuel will help power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will power our next generation of reactors. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and we are backed by top tier investors.

Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency.

About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior BMS/BAS Engineer to lead the design, integration, and commissioning of advanced building automation and control systems for our most complex mission-critical projects. In this role, you will be the technical authority on the "digital nervous system" of the facility, ensuring that HVAC, power, and specialized industrial systems operate with maximum reliability and efficiency.

The ideal candidate has a deep mastery of control theory, open protocols, and integrated architectures. You will work on a greenfield and brownfield projects, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and ICT designers to bridge the gap between physical infrastructure and intelligent software. This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional building controls into the realm of high-performance industrial automation and digital twins.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and specify comprehensive BMS/BAS solutions, including network topology, controller selection, and high-level integration strategies for industrial and nuclear facilities.
  • Develop complex control sequences, I/O points lists, and functional descriptions that optimize system performance while maintaining strict safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead the design of network architectures utilizing BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and Niagara frameworks to ensure seamless interoperability across diverse equipment vendors.
  • Collaborate with MEP teams to integrate HVAC plant controls, electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), and specialized process systems into a unified glass-pane interface.
  • Drive BIM integration by developing smart Revit families for sensors and controllers, ensuring that control points are mapped correctly within the digital model.
  • Oversee system commissioning and functional performance testing (FPT), working closely with automation contractors to validate sequences and troubleshoot logic in the field.
  • Implement advanced analytics, including fault detection and diagnostics (FDD), energy sub-metering, and trending functions to support long-term facility optimization.
  • Ensure cybersecurity hygiene within the building network, following industry best practices for securing operational technology (OT) environments.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, or a related automation discipline.
  • 8+ years of industry experience specifically in building automation, industrial controls, or SCADA systems.
  • Expertise in Niagara 4 (N4) and deep familiarity with open communication protocols (BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU).
  • Proven track record of delivering controls projects for large-scale, high-reliability facilities (e.g., data centers, labs, or advanced manufacturing).
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for the production of control diagrams, riser drawings, and floor plans.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or relevant industry certifications (e.g., CEM or Niagara AX/N4 Certification).
  • Experience with high-level programming or scripting (Python, C#, or JavaScript) for data engineering and custom API integrations.
  • Interest in AI tools for design and visual programming
  • Familiarity with BIM modeling software, such as Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Background in "Smart Building" technologies, including IoT sensor integration, cloud-based monitoring, and MQTT protocols.
  • Familiarity with Uptime Institute standards or similar high-availability requirements for mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to solving integration challenges in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

About General Matter

General Matter is enriching uranium in America. Our missio n is to restore US leadership in nuclear fuel. This fuel will power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will enable the next generation of reactors and the reactors powering ~20% of the US grid today. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions. If we don’t do it, no one will. Half a century ago, the US held a majority of all global enrichment capacity. Today we are forced to rely on foreign powers and their state-backed, state-controlled entities for the nuclear fuel that powers nearly 20% of our nation’s grid. We are fixing this. By uniting the nation’s finest minds from technology, nuclear engineering, national security, and finance, we are building a new way to enrich uranium, here at home. The fuel we are enriching will be cheaper, more reliable, and more abundant than ever before, and it will result in a stronger America. As we build our team we are seeking the highest caliber engineers, technologists, creative minds, and numbers savants. We offer high standards, extreme ownership, copious autonomy, deep trust, and zero politics. We believe that despite our ambitious mission, our chances of su...
