About the Role

AppLovin is seeking an experienced, intellectually curious, and highly motivated Employment Counsel to join our growing Legal team. This is an exciting opportunity for a business-oriented employment attorney at a fast-paced, publicly traded technology company with a global footprint.

This role reports to the Chief Administrative & Legal Officer. You will partner closely with HR, business leaders, and executives to provide proactive, practical advice across the employee lifecycle. 

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in U.S. (especially California) employment law as well as experience with global employment matters, especially in EMEA and APAC. You are comfortable problem-solving with business leaders and moving matters forward in a dynamic, high-growth environment, using sound judgment, commercial awareness, and a collaborative approach in a global organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor on day-to-day employment law matters across the companies global locations, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, investigations, and separations/terminations.
  • Partner closely with the People Team and business leaders to provide practical, risk-balanced guidance and help reach decisions in complex or ambiguous situations. 
  • Advise on employee relations, compliance, policy development, and training initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Provide guidance on classification, pay transparency, benefits and global mobility considerations.
  • Oversee or guide sensitive investigations and terminations involving potential legal exposure or cross-border implications.
  • Review and advise on employment agreements, offer letters, handbooks and policies - including multi-state and international versions.
  • Manage and respond to employment claims, demand letters, and agency inquiries.
  • Coordinate with external counsel on global employment and compliance matters, as needed.
  • Monitor evolving employment laws and regulations globally and translate them into clear, actionable, and scalable guidance for HR and business teams.
  • Advise the Company’s 401K and benefits committee.

 

Qualifications

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school and admission to and active status in at least one state bar (and eligible to register for California’s or an applicable state bar’s in-house counsel program).
  • 6-8+ years of employment law experience, with a strong foundation in the U.S. (especially California) employment law and exposure to global employment issues.
  • Combination of top-tier law firm and in-house experience preferred, ideally with a CEO-founder led technology or high-growth public company.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, decisive guidance and take ownership of outcomes in a business environment.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with a practical, business-oriented approach.
  • Comfort working independently with limited resources, while maintaining strong judgment and prioritization skills.
  • Strategic thinker with curiosity, humility, and the ability to manage both day-to-day legal support  with longer-term initiatives.
  • Proactive team player, with a sense of humor, the flexibility to pivot to new projects and adjust to shifting priorities, and a willingness to pitch in wherever necessary.
  • Ability to explain complicated legal concepts in simple, digestible terms and help business colleagues translate those requirements into practical action items.
  • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels and geographies.

AppLovin provides a competitive total compensation package with a pay for performance rewards approach. Total compensation at AppLovin is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Depending on the position offered, equity, and other forms of incentive compensation (as applicable) may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to dental, vision, and other benefits.
