Sr. Product Development Manager, Customer Hardware (Starlink)

SpaceX · Bastrop, TX

onsitefull-timesenior level

About this role

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, CUSTOMER HARDWARE (STARLNK)

Starlink believes in providing fast, reliable internet to serve populations with little or no connectivity. We design, build, launch, and operate the world's largest constellation of satellites, enabling us to operate a global internet network unbounded by traditional ground infrastructure limitations. Starlink also designs, builds, and delivers high-volume consumer hardware that allows users to connect to these satellites within minutes of unboxing, as well as our advanced gateways that we deploy regionally throughout the world. With millions of daily users worldwide already online, Starlink is truly a game changer and levels the playing field for those who were previously unconnected.

We are looking for a highly capable Sr. Product Development Manager to own the end-to-end execution of new Starlink hardware products. This is a critical new role within the Starlink Product Hardware Development organization focused on bridging the gap between engineering teams and successful product launches.

You will be the single person responsible for the full execution of new consumer electronics programs — from concept through prototype development, de-risking, mass production ramp, and worldwide launch. You will work directly with engineering teams (electrical, RF, software, mechanical, and compliance) as well as our Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to drive programs to completion on schedule and within cost targets. This position reports directly to the Starlink leadership with significant autonomy. There is flexibility to shape the role toward deeper technical involvement or product definition work as the needs of the organization evolve.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own complete program execution for new Starlink consumer hardware products from initial concept through mass production and global sales launch
  • Drive schedule, cost, and performance targets across all functional teams
  • Lead prototype development, de-risking activities, and risk mitigation efforts
  • Act as the primary integrator and single point of accountability across multiple engineering disciplines (electrical, RF, software, mechanical, compliance)
  • Work directly with Contract Manufacturers to ensure smooth transition from engineering prototypes to high-volume production
  • Establish and maintain clear program visibility, including status reporting, issue tracking, and recovery plans when needed
  • Identify and resolve cross-functional blockers quickly
  • Continuously improve product development and NPI processes for consumer electronics hardware

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or other engineering/STEM discipline
  • 3+ years of professional experience with hardware design/development or electronics test engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in technical program management, product development, or NPI for consumer electronics, wireless hardware, or similar high-volume products

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated success taking complex hardware products from concept through mass production and global launch
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to engage deeply with electrical, RF, mechanical, and software engineers
  • Experience with satellite communication hardware, wireless/RF products, or complex antenna systems
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers in Asia or equivalent high-volume production environments
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with high ownership
  • Previous experience at a high-growth hardware company or in the consumer electronics space
  • Strong background in risk management, schedule compression, and cost optimization
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements for global consumer electronics

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must travel to other SpaceX sites (Hawthorne, CA and Redmond, WA) as needed to interface with team members and drive technical projects
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
