Job Overview: Your Mission in This Role
Join SkyDrive in engineering the future of Urban Air Mobility. We are developing a world-class multicopter eVTOL designed to revolutionize daily transportation. As a Structure Design Engineer, you will own the development of the primary and secondary airframe structures Your objective is to engineer a lightweight, optimized airframe that strictly adheres to airworthiness certification standards, while ensuring the robust structural integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Airframe Structural Design: Develop optimized structural topologies with clear, continuous load paths. Validate design feasibility against weight and strength requirements. Develop detailed 3D models of airframe structures utilizing CATIA V5. Execute advanced surfacing (Generative Shape Design), solid modeling, and large assembly management to ensure robust Digital Mock-Ups (DMU). Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure designs are producible. Create engineering drawings (2D) with appropriate tolerance stack-up analysis based on GD&T.
- Composite Design & Optimization: Develop primary and secondary airframe structures utilizing advanced composite materials (CFRP) and lightweight metallic alloys. Define and optimize composite laminate architectures to maximize structural efficiency and adhere to strict mass targets.
- Systems Integration (Packaging): Design optimized structural interfaces and support assemblies to ensure secure integration while maintaining the global stiffness and strength of the primary structure.
- Master Geometry Management: Drive "Upstream CAD" methodologies, managing top-down design architecture and master geometry files to ensure data consistency across the engineering team.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering.
- CAD Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in CATIA V5 (Generative Shape Design, Part Design, Assembly Design). Experience with CPD (Composite Part Design) is a strong plus.
- Industry Experience: 3+ years of experience in structural design within the Aerospace industry (highly preferred) or Automotive.
- Composite Knowledge: Deep understanding of composite materials, composite airframe conception and manufacturing processes.
- Engineering Fundamentals: Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, load paths, and weight optimization techniques.
Preferred Skills
- eVTOL/Drone Experience: Specific experience designing multicopters or VTOL aircraft.
- Certification Knowledge: Familiarity with certification specifications such as JCAB, EASA (SC-VTOL), or FAA (Part 23).
- PLM Experience: Proficiency in using ARAS for product lifecycle management.
- Rapid Prototyping: Experience in a startup environment where agility and rapid design iterations are required.
