SUPERVISOR, TRANSPORTATION (STARLINK)

As a Transportation Supervisor, you will manage contracted shuttle services to and from campus, internal shuttle services and shuttle drivers, maintenance and ownership logistics of the company vehicle fleet, planning and logistics for site parking, and contracts for rental equipment vehicles at SpaceX’s Redmond and Woodinville facilities. You will develop and implement effective strategies for fleet operations, driver management, maintenance scheduling, and contract oversight to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation solutions.

The duties of the Supervisor, Transportation and Vehicles will include but are not limited to: coordinating transportation and parking operations, monitoring and motivating staff, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, engaging with vendors and drivers, creating and implementing processes to improve fleet efficiency, ensuring team is current with all mandatory company trainings, scheduling and payroll, interviewing, hiring and onboarding of new staff, setting and upholding operational principles. The Transportation Supervisor will support the SpaceX mission by providing reliable transportation infrastructure that enhances employee mobility, safety, and productivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee transportation operations including strategy and execution of contracted shuttle services to/from campus, internal shuttle services, company vehicle fleet maintenance/logistics, and rental equipment vehicle contracts (trucks, forklifts, scissor lifts, variable reach forklifts, and other industrial vehicles/machinery)
  • Monitor quality and consistency of transportation operations by setting and enforcing standards, inspecting vehicles/services, and routinely reviewing areas of responsibility
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive parking strategies for site parking facilities, including capacity planning, layout optimization, and ongoing adjustments to align with evolving business needs, workforce growth, and operational requirements
  • Develop and maintain campus bike program
  • Train staff on safety protocols, vehicle operations, anticipating needs, and problem resolution
  • Enforce proper safety practices with drivers, staff, and contractors
  • Coordinate and enhance time management for transportation team
  • Monitor financial activities for transportation operations, strategically driving cost efficiencies and managing budgets
  • Create and maintain in-person and online training materials for drivers and fleet operations
  • Manage performance for transportation and vehicles staff
  • Assist in all aspects of project implementation for transportation infrastructure as needed, including fleet expansions or upgrades
  • Provide campus-wide reporting on departmental spend, vehicle utilization, maintenance metrics, and other data as requested
  • Obtain multiple bids from competing contractors/vendors by creating scopes of work for shuttle services, rentals, and maintenance
  • Perform job walk-downs with vendors, engineers, supervisors, and managers
  • Create RFPOs and assist buyers with vendor selection for vehicles and services
  • Ensure purchase orders are accurate with no cost overruns
  • Work closely with Facilities, Development, Culinary, Hospitality, and other operational teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of leadership experience within the transportation, logistics, or fleet management industries

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in transportation, logistics, business, or related field
  • 5+ years of leadership experience within the transportation, logistics, or fleet management industries
  • Experience opening new operations and/or creating operational procedures from the ground up
  • Advanced knowledge of safety compliance, vehicle maintenance, and problem resolution
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent knowledge of fleet inventory, maintenance processes, and driver management
  • Experience in corporate or industrial environment
  • Proficient knowledge of human resources management
  • Ability to organize work for large groups in various transportation formats
  • Strong time management skills
  • Experience with high volume, complex multidisciplinary operations
  • Experience leading groups in large team settings of 10 or more staff members
  • Experience working in SpaceX transportation or facilities operations for 1+ years
  • Experience managing shuttle services, company fleets, or rental equipment contracts
  • Familiar with vehicle maintenance procedures and regulatory compliance (e.g., DOT, OSHA)
  • Ability to create and update RFPOs and work orders in an ERP software
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to make independent judgments with limited information
  • Communication skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between employees, vendors, and contractors
  • Logical and strategic approach to solving problems
  • Ability to read and understand vehicle specs, maintenance logs, and basic site plans
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time, and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic directions

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work all shifts and available for overtime and weekends as needed
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and non-standard work-week hours

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range: 
Supervisor, Transportation: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
