Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2026 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?
We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic and skilled tax professional to join our finance team as the Tax Manager. As the first member of the finance team whose role focuses exclusively on tax, you will have the unique opportunity to establish high quality tax operations for the company and support Flex through its next phase of growth and operational maturity. You will be responsible for partnering with our outsourced tax provider to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations while shaping Flex’s overall tax strategy. In this role, you will be designing and implementing new processes and controls for the tax function, strengthening compliance, financial reporting, and visibility into tax work streams. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, has excellent collaboration skills (this role will interface heavily with our finance, legal and compliance teams, as well as external tax providers), and is invigorated by solving problems and building processes from the ground up in a fast-paced environment. This position will report directly to the VP, Controller and will be located in our New York headquarters on a hybrid basis.
What You’ll Do
Develop and maintain the company’s tax compliance calendar; implement process improvements and controls to ensure all filings are completed timely and accurately
Lead coordination with external tax advisors on all areas of tax compliance and strategy, including ASC 740 provision, tax returns, tax credits, and advisory projects (e.g. nexus/taxability study, transfer pricing, etc.)
Own indirect tax compliance across all jurisdictions, including research, registrations, filings and process management.
Flex takes a market-based approach to pay, ensuring compensation is commensurate with a candidate's experience and our internal leveling guidelines. For candidates located in our Tier 1 markets (NYC/ SF), the base salary pay range for this role is $140,000—$170,000 USD.
For all other U.S. locations, Flex utilizes a geographic pay differential based on a cost of labor index. If you are located outside of the Tier 1 states listed above, your starting pay will be adjusted to align with the market conditions of your specific geographic zone. Please speak with your recruiter for additional information regarding the specific range for your location
