The Opportunity

Lead a high-impact engineering team responsible for Relay’s Core services and associated architecture. As Team Lead, you'll be both a technical authority and a servant leader—architecting compliant systems, championing AI-native development practices and building a team that delivers exceptional results. This is a hands-on position where you'll spend ~50% of your time coding alongside your team while providing the coordination, mentorship, and technical leadership that keeps everyone moving forward.

The successful candidate will play an important role in Engineering, working directly with Platform/DevOps, Product leadership, and the other Engineering architects to ensure the integrity and on-going extensibility of the software stack while also shaping our technical direction.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Technical Ownership

• Drive architecture and engineering standards for secure, compliant, full-stack systems with ownership for Relay’s Feed, SMS/Notification, Authentication/Authorization, and Messaging services.
• Lead both greenfield builds and the evolution of existing solutions that are HITRUST r2, SOC2, HIPAA, and TCPA compliant
• Build and optimize distributed, message-based workflows for reliability, performance, and cloud cost efficiency
• Establish effective AI-first and AI-assisted development practices

 

People Leadership

• Coach engineers at all levels and improve team capability through mentoring, feedback, and hiring
• Partner with the Engineering Manager on team performance
• Foster an inclusive, high-trust culture that values collaboration, accountability, and different perspectives.
• Inculcate and nurture a culture that balances technical discipline and urgency within the team, in support of Relay’s Software Development Life Cycle, including design, development, deployment, maintenance, and documentation

• Own predictable delivery, incident leadership, and operational readiness of team commitments.
• Align execution with product and platform priorities, making clear trade-offs across scope, quality, and speed
• Communicate progress, risks, and decisions clearly to stakeholders and partner teams
  
  

Our Tech Stack
Our SaaS platform runs on AWS cloud infrastructure with code written primarily in TypeScript across Node.js services and Angular and React frontends, plus supporting Python components. You'll work with distributed, message-based integrations, streaming architectures, modern cloud services, and AI development tooling such as GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, and Claude Code.

Required Experience

• 8+ years of software development experience building large scale SaaS production systems (experience working with MarTech architecture stacks a strong plus).
• 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership/architect role, providing technical oversight to other engineers
• Full-stack development experience spanning frontend and backend systems
• Demonstrated success delivering both greenfield projects and enhancements to existing production platforms
• Demonstrated track record of leading complex technical initiatives
• Proven competency in driving sound architectural decisions
• Experience working in remote/hybrid cross-functional teams with product and design partners

 

Technical Skills

• Strong system design and architecture skillset
• Hands-on development experience with AWS cloud services
• Expert-level competency with modern technology stacks (TypeScript, Node.js, Angular, React, Python. Terraform, etc.)
• Track record of AI-native / AI-first development (hands-on experience with Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, etc.)
• Strong working experience with SSO/OAuth implementations and solutions
• Experience developing, supporting, and troubleshooting distributed, message-based architectures
• Strong performance profiling and cloud cost optimization instincts
• Security-first mindset with proficiency in secure coding practices and data protection
• Experience delivering software solutions in compliance with requirements for highly regulated industries (SOC2, HIPAA, HI Trust)
