Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Utility Locator/GPS Technician to join our dynamic utilities team Richmond and Fredericksburg, Virginia.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.  Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.

What You Will Do:

  • Detect, verify, and mark gas line locations using electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment in accordance with industry standards and safety requirements.

     

  • Utilize Trimble GPS equipment and the Trimble Unity application on an iPad to accurately collect, record, and geospatially map utility data.

     

  • Develop and maintain reliable, high-accuracy maps of gas infrastructure while ensuring data integrity and consistency across projects.

     

  • Meet established monthly production goals by locating and mapping required footage while maintaining quality, safety, and documentation standards.

     

  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable regulations, safety protocols, and company procedures.

What You Will Bring:

•    Must have a high school diploma or GED and applicable OSHA certifications.
•    Must be proficient with forms of electromagnetic locating equipment.
•    Must have 1+ years of related work experience, preferred.
•    Must have proficient understanding and use of multiple utility locating principals/standards, along with advanced locating techniques and recognition and understanding of different connection points.
•    Must have proficient understanding and use of with multiple electromagnetic locating systems from various manufactures.
•    Must have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
•    Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
•    Must have average communication skills, both verbal and written and be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
•    Must be able to travel frequently and extensively, overnight and/or out of town.
•    Must be able to work overtime as required.
•    Must be CPU literate: Basic computer skills, including familiarity with data transfer, Microsoft Suite, email, and basic software used in surveying.
•    Must have valid driver’s license and pass a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record check.
•    Must maintain satisfactory driving record, as required by our insurance company.
•    Must successfully pass pre-employment background and drug screening. Periodic drug testing may be required per company policy.
 
Physical Qualifications:
•    Must be in good physical condition and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
•    Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
•    Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
•    Must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms, bend and climb, and balance.
•    Must be able to use tools and equipment (such as a shovel, tape measure, cloth/steel tape, machete, and hammer).
•    Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
•    Must have vision abilities of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 
Working Conditions:
•    Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments, often in remote and rugged locations.
•    Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
•    Physical demands include standing for extended periods, walking on uneven terrain, and carrying equipment.
•    Use of personal protective equipment as required.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Pay Range
$20—$24 USD
