Media Planner

Role Overview

As a Media Planner, you will support integrated media and communications planning for a key global account in Japan, mostly focussed on digital channels. You will help translate business objectives into full-funnel media strategies and actionable plans, working closely with senior planners, client stakeholders, internal activation teams, creative partners, and external media vendors. This role is suited for a collaborative, detail-oriented planner who is eager to learn cross-channel planning and contribute to campaigns that are strategically sound, well-executed, and continuously optimized.

Key Responsibilities

Integrated Media Strategy & Planning

  • Support the development of insight-driven media strategies aligned with client marketing and business goals.
  • Help define channel roles, audience approaches, budget allocation ideas, and campaign phasing across digital and offline media.
  • Contribute to ensuring alignment between brand-building and performance-driven channels.
  • Assist with audience research, competitive reviews, and performance analysis to strengthen planning recommendations.

Campaign Planning, Execution & Optimization

  • Build and maintain media plans, flowcharts, timelines, and budget trackers with accuracy.
  • Coordinate with digital activation teams and media vendors to support correct implementation.
  • Monitor pacing, delivery, and performance against KPIs; flag risks and opportunities.
  • Support optimization recommendations based on in-flight results and insights.

Client Management & Communication

  • Support day-to-day communications by preparing materials, updates, and meeting notes.
  • Help develop and deliver clear planning narratives and performance summaries (Japanese/English as needed).
  • Develop an understanding of the client’s category, priorities, and competitive landscape to inform recommendations.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Assist in analyzing cross-channel performance and translating results into actionable insights.
  • Prepare reporting outputs and contribute to post-campaign analyses and learnings.
  • Maintain a measurement mindset so plans and recommendations connect to outcomes.

Cross-Functional & External Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal teams (e.g., Activation, Analytics, Strategy, Creative, Investment).
  • Coordinate with external partners such as media owners and creative/production partners where required.
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing on media trends, tools, and best practices.

What Success Looks Like

First 3 months

  • Deliver accurate planning outputs (plans, trackers, timelines) and contribute to insight gathering.
  • Establish working relationships with key internal teams and stakeholders.

Within 6 months

  • Build strong understanding of the client’s business, audiences, and channel ecosystem in Japan.
  • Own planning components for selected campaigns/projects under senior guidance.
  • Confidently explain planning rationale and performance updates in internal and client-facing settings.
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities using data and platform signals.

Within 12 months

  • Lead day-to-day planning for a defined workstream with increasing independence.
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality planning outputs and contribute meaningfully to strategic recommendations.
  • Be recognized as a reliable cross-functional partner who improves team efficiency and campaign outcomes.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 2 years of experience in media planning / communications planning (agency or in-house).
  • Working knowledge of digital media (e.g., paid social, search, video, display, programmatic) and interest in offline media (e.g., TV, OOH, print, radio).
  • Experience supporting integrated campaigns and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills; proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, budget tracking).
  • Clear communication and presentation skills; Japanese required and business-level English preferred.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Typical Scope of Authority

  • Own assigned planning tasks and deliverables (e.g., plan sections, trackers, timelines, reporting inputs).
  • Provide channel recommendations and optimization inputs with senior review.
  • Present selected sections of plans and performance updates, as appropriate to experience level.

主な業務内容

統合メディア戦略/プランニング

  • クライアントのマーケティング/事業目標に整合した、インサイト起点のメディア戦略策定を支援
  • デジタル/オフライン横断で、チャネルの役割定義、オーディエンス設計、予算配分案、キャンペーンのフェーズ設計を支援
  • ブランド構築系チャネルとパフォーマンス(獲得)系チャネルの整合性確保に貢献
  • オーディエンス調査、競合レビュー、パフォーマンス分析を補助し、提案の精度向上に寄与

キャンペーン設計・実行・最適化

  • メディアプラン、フロー(配信設計)表、タイムライン、予算管理表を正確に作成・更新
  • デジタル運用(アクティベーション)チームおよびメディアベンダーと連携し、適切な実装(配信設定・進行)を支援
  • KPIに対する進捗(消化)・配信状況・パフォーマンスをモニタリングし、リスク/機会を特定・共有
  • 配信中の結果とインサイトに基づく最適化提案を支援

クライアント対応/コミュニケーション

  • 資料作成、進捗アップデート、議事録作成などを通じて日々のコミュニケーションを支援
  • 分かりやすいプランの説明ストーリーおよびパフォーマンスサマリーの作成・説明を支援(必要に応じて日英対応)
  • クライアントの業界(カテゴリ)、優先事項、競合環境の理解を深め、提案に反映

データ分析/レポーティング

  • クロスチャネルの実績分析を補助し、結果を実行可能な示唆へ落とし込み
  • レポート作成を担当し、キャンペーン後の分析と学びの整理に貢献
  • プランと提案が成果に結びつくよう、計測・検証の観点を保持

社内外連携

  • 社内関連チーム(運用/アナリティクス/ストラテジー/クリエイティブ/投資・バイイング等)と密に連携
  • 必要に応じて、媒体社(メディアオーナー)やクリエイティブ/制作パートナーなど外部パートナーと調整
  • メディアトレンド、ツール、ベストプラクティスに関するチーム内ナレッジ共有に貢献

必須スキル/経験

  • メディアプランニング/コミュニケーションプランニングの実務経験2年以上(代理店・事業会社いずれも可)
  • デジタルメディア(有料ソーシャル、検索、動画、ディスプレイ、プログラマティック等)の基礎知識、ならびにオフライン媒体(TV、OOH、新聞・雑誌、ラジオ等)への関心
  • 統合キャンペーンの支援経験、複数ステークホルダーの調整経験
  • 高い分析力、Excelスキル(ピボットテーブル、参照/検索系関数、予算管理等)
  • 明確なコミュニケーション/プレゼンテーション能力(日本語必須、英語はビジネスレベル歓迎)
  • 高い業務整理力、細部への注意力、複数タスクと期限の並行管理能力
